How City National Bank Helps With Overdrafts

We know that mistakes happen. At City, we’ll waive the fees for the first two non-sufficient funds items you incur during the life of your account. City provides a number of ways for you to check your account balance anywhere, anytime. Always know your account balance by using City’s free online banking, free mobile banking1 and free telephone banking. City allows you to sign up for low-balance alerts that tell you when your account balance drops below a certain limit. Log into your online banking account to set up alerts.

TRANSACTION POSTING ORDER

City posts all of your deposits to your account first, before any checks or other debits. At the end of each business day, credits and debits are applied to your account according to a specific posting order, which may differ from the order in which the transactions were made. Transactions are applied to your account in the following sequence:

  • Deposits

    Deposits received the same business day are posted first.2

  • Debit Card Transactions

    Posted next, from lowest dollar amount to highest dollar amount, in this order:

    • Recurring debit card transactions
    • ATM cash withdrawals
    • Point-of-sale debit card transactions

  • Debits Without a Serial Number

    These items are posted next, from lowest dollar amount to highest dollar amount, in this order:

    • Force paid items
    • Internal debit items
    • Federal checks
    • Wire transfers
    • Telephone transfers
    • Automatic funds transfers
    • ACH debits

  • Debits With a Serial Number

    Posted last, from lowest serial/check number to highest serial/check number in this order:

    • Checks processed at a branch location
    • Other checks
