Scam Alert: Remote Access Scams

Scammers try to gain access to the phones, tablets and computers of others to get into bank accounts and steal personal information. They often pose as tech support, customer service or bank officials and trick victims into downloading apps or programs to provide remote access. Be on the lookout for these types of scams and never allow anyone to gain remote access to your device.

Here are a few things to remember:

  • Never click a link or download an app, program or document from someone who contacts you unexpectedly.
  • Banks and legitimate companies will never ask you to download things like TeamViewer, AnyDesk or other software to take control of your device.
  • Large companies like Amazon, Apple and Microsoft will never call or text you about your account being “hacked.”
  • Legitimate organizations will not pressure you to act immediately. Scammers use urgency to trick people into taking action without thinking things through.

If you are contacted by phone, text or email about potential fraud or issues with your account, call the company at a phone number you know to be legitimate to confirm any communication. And if you think you’ve fallen victim to a scam, call your local branch or our Customer Care Center at 888-816-8064 for assistance.
