Opening a Business Bank Account

Opening a dedicated bank account for your business is essential in separating your business finances from your personal assets. And establishing a business relationship with your bank will provide access to financial experts that can offer guidance on how to move your business forward.

To open a business account, here are some things you’ll need:

  • Two forms of personal identification, like your driver’s license, passport or a utility bill
  • Your business’s federal EIN – or, for sole proprietors, your Social Security Number
  • Your Articles of Organization, certificate of assumed name or partnership agreements
  • Your business license, including local or state permits

You’ll also want to consider what type of account you need. Business checking accounts include free options like City’s Best Free Business Checking, and interest-earning accounts like our Small Business Interest Checking. There are also Money Market accounts for those with higher balances, and Business Savings accounts.

To apply for a business bank account, you can visit your local branch. A banker will walk you through the account options and help you choose the one that’s best for you.
